In today’s world, building a business and brand often requires social media expertise. Here’s what to know about how often to post on social media.
The question of how often to post can be a tough one because it varies from person to person and from account to account. I am going to share my individual experience here – but take it with a grain of salt because, again, all social accounts are different.

Some factors to consider when thinking about how often to post on social media – how large is your audience (more followers may mean more flexibility) and what content are you sharing (is it content people want to see often, and if not, how can you make it content they will want to see more of).
Questions to ask yourself:
- What platforms do I want to use? Only invest in platforms you will continually use and you think can add value to your goals. It’s all about quality over quantity when it comes to how many different social platforms to be on because you don’t want to have an account you never use.
- What’s my goal? Is it to get followers or get brand awareness? This may impact what types of content you share. But your goal should be a mix of both – building an audience while aiming to meet your goals.
- Who is my audience? Build a profile for your ideal audience member. Ask yourself what they would want to see and when they’d want to see it (when do you think they’d be online and on their phones?)
- What else can I do? Certain platforms and certain apps offer statistics on account performance. You can analyze those stats to be able to see what’s working – what days of the week are more popular for your audience and what times of day appear to be working best. You can also try to test it out yourself and try posting at different times to see which posts resonate the best. If you go with the test option, run it a few times over to be sure.
Totally lost and just want to be told what works?
I shared this in another blog post, but I will share it again here so you have an idea of what I do:
Daily – Weekly use:
Instagram – I try to share an IG Story every day, and a post every other day or every few days.
Facebook – I schedule material to publish every day of the week.
Pinterest – I schedule material to publish multiple times a day and try to pin/save other posts often.
Twitter – I tweet, retweet or share links multiple times a week.

Weekly – Monthly use:
YouTube – I try to create at least 2 new videos a month.
LinkedIn – I make sure my content is updated and that I’m checking my network/connections and messages 1-2 times a month.
But like I said it really depends! I have seen larger accounts share much more often because they have a larger audience. It may also depend on the day or time of year – if it’s super relevant to you (example: you specialize in Christmas and it’s almost Christmas!) then you may want to post more. Experiment and see what works!
