Planning our trip to Italy & Paris

Planning our trip to Italy & Paris

This blog post was written in June 2021.

This summer my husband and I are taking a trip to Italy and France. He is half-French, so Paris is a necessary stop of course! Before COVID we tried to go once a year, so this has been one of the longest times he’s been away from the homeland. P.S. This page may contain affiliate links. Italy is one of my favorite countries I’ve visited so far. Previously I’ve been to Milan, Rome, Florence and Venice. My ancestors are from Naples and Sicily, and those two spots have been on my list forever.

Unfortunately, we won’t have time to go there this trip – we are just doing Rome, Tuscany and Florence – but in the future we’ll make it happen. Especially after reading My Brilliant Friend and the Neapolitan Novels, which all take place in Naples. If you haven’t read them yet, order them now!

We are, however, taking a day trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, which will be a first for both of us.

Our itinerary is a little packed because we are stopping in New York on the way (from L.A.) for a night to see my grandpa, so we’ll be in Europe for about 10 days including a travel day on each end.

We start in Rome, staying there for three nights. Next, we rent a car and drive to Tuscany (this is a new place for both of us!). Then we wrap up Italy in Florence. After, we head to Paris for two nights, before hopping on a flight back to L.A.

I think driving a car through Tuscany will be a lot of fun. We pick it up in Rome and drop it off in Florence. We booked that on Amex with our travel points. The Amex Platinum is great for travel.

Things are still coming together for restaurant and museum bookings, so stay tuned for more. Also, we are fully vaccinated and we booked COVID-tested flights from JFK to Rome. This means there’s a guarantee we can enter without needing to quarantine.
