My husband’s first language is French, but you’d never know it. He is also completely fluent in English. I love the French language, and I even studied abroad in Paris! But I’m by no means fluent. During the quarantine and coronavirus pandemic we’ve successfully kept busy, but one Saturday my husband suggested a new idea: French movies with subtitles.

I’ve watched a ton of subtitled movies. I have no problem with them at all. But I never thought of only focusing on trying to watch subtitled movies. He had a ton of suggestions so we started on them. Although I have no qualms about movies with subtitles, I also wasn’t lining them up. But watching his recommendations turned out to be just what I needed.

During the quarantine, many of us are stuck in one spot. Watching a movie that’s in another language gives you a view into another world. Watching a few French films really elevated my spirits and gave me the chance to enjoy another culture from my own home.
