Meta’s Threads: A New Player in the Social Media Landscape

MEDIA

In the dynamic world of social media, a new platform has emerged from the house of Meta – Threads. It’s a direct competitor to Twitter. Here we break down what it is, how to use it and what to expect.

What is Threads?

Threads is a text-based conversation app, launched in July 2023. It works very much like Twitter. But what sets Threads apart from the rest? Let’s explore.

Threads allows users to publish short posts or updates of up to 500 characters, inclusive of links, photos or videos up to 5 minutes long. It’s like Instagram, but with a focus on text. The app is linked to your Instagram account, facilitating easy sharing of Threads posts to your Instagram story or any other platform.

The User Experience

Your feed on Threads consists of posts from people and accounts you follow on Instagram or Threads, supplemented by recommendations for undiscovered content. Users also have the ability to filter specific words from their feed and restrict who can mention them, providing a personalized social media experience.

Creating a post or “Thread” is simple. You can select who’s able to view it, which could be the entire world or just your followers. The platform also offers features like screen reader support and AI-generated image descriptions.

Threads vs. Twitter: The New Rivalry

The defining feature of Threads is its potential for real-time conversations. It’s not just about posting; it’s about engaging. It’s about creating a space where ideas can be shared and discussed. Only time will tell how it stacks up against Twitter in the long run.

MORE: How to use Twitter

Threads is a new entrant in the social media landscape. It’s a platform that aims to provide a new way to communicate and connect. In the ever-evolving world of social media, Threads is an interesting addition. So, are you ready to start threading?
