
If you’re building a social media brand, one of the most important things to do is keep your identity consistent. You want to have a clear message and a focus for your audience. The best way to do this is to start with the most simple, but one of the most important things: your username.

Keep your username, aka your handle, consistent across your social platforms. Try to avoid numbers and characters. Go for something short if possible as well as attention-grabbing. I came up with my handle @LIVNEWS in grad school when I was studying journalism. I took my name: Olivia (Liv), which also reminds people of living/lifestyle/life. Then combined it with my field: news. Hence, LIVNEWS.

Now, it’s a brand I have built up over the years and a handle I’ve carried across all of my social accounts. It makes it easier for people to find and connect with me on platforms.
Building a social media brand requires strategy, and this one simple step will help you define the focus of your brand. For example, mine is living/lifestyle and news. It’s also the easiest way for your audience to find you on all socials!
