If you’re looking for free Wifi, first go to your settings to see if you’re in an area that offers free WiFi, like a café or an airport. To get to your WiFi, go to your phone’s Settings and then tap on Wi-Fi. That’s where you’ll see if you’re connected to WiFi and you’ll also see other networks in your area. A lock symbol next to a network means you need a password to use it.
If you’re at a place like a coffee shop it may have a password, but if you ask they will often give it out to their customers.
If you don’t see any WiFi networks to join, then go to the website wifispc.com. This site will give you a map that lays out all of the available WiFi networks in the area. Or you can go to wifimap.io and search there too. You can also download it as an app: WiFi Map.

If you want updated features on the app it’s $30 a year, so it may only be worth it to you if you travel a lot. With the update, you can get a secure VPN (virtual private network), which means you will have security when using the WiFi. That is another important note. Make sure to check your security. Certain WiFi networks may not be secure, meaning they can steal your information. So be careful before you connect to just any WiFi.
Also, if you’re looking into saving data on your phone and you’re using an iPhone, make sure you turn off Wi-Fi assist. To do this, navigate to Settings and then tap Cellular. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll see Wi-Fi Assist. It says: “Automatically use cellular data when Wi-Fi connectivity is poor.” Make sure to turn that off if you don’t want to eat into your data.

Of course, if you want to spend money to ensure you have WiFi on the go you can buy a personal hotspot (aka a MiFi or a small portable router) to always give you WiFi. But you’ll need to purchase a plan for it.
