Tinto is an app that helps new moms with support and guidance. We spoke with Dr. Hannah Allen, who co-founded the app in May 2019 with former lawyer Idia Elsmore Dodsworth.
Dr. Allen, who lives in the UK, said she found a distinct lack of personalized support and information for mothers while working on the front line within primary care NHS clinics in London. Dr. Allen said she felt frustrated at not being able to provide mothers with the level of service that they needed. She recognized the importance of a holistic approach when thinking about how to best support new mothers, incorporating their biopsychosocial needs and leveraging technology to do so.

“Pregnancy, childbirth and the early years can be the most joyous time for many women. But equally, all too often women find this to be an incredibly isolating, frightening time and the guilt that this presents can be overwhelming,” Allen said. She also pointed to a 2019 report from MBRRACE-UK which published findings on maternal deaths and suicide.
