
TikTok is known for its short video lengths, ranging from 30 seconds to one minute. However, in mid-2021 the app rolled out an update to allow videos to now be up to three minutes long.

You can find the option at the bottom of the screen when creating or uploading videos in the app (see above). 3m means three minutes. You’ll see you can also still choose 60 seconds of 15 seconds as well.
For any video option, you can either make a video natively in the app or upload a video. To make one in the app, you’d record in the app and then edit and post it. Or you can upload a video directly from your phone.

Make sure you have the most recent TikTok app to see this option for a longer video length.
It’s important to note that some believe the app favors videos watched until the end. This means the longer the video, the longer your audience has to watch it for more views to count. The theory goes that the shorter the video, the more views you’ll get.

So before you start posting a ton of three minute TikTok videos, think to yourself: will people watch this until the end? Does it need to be this long?
