Our WFH – work from home – series looks at how to best work from home.
Working at home has its pros and cons, and a big pro is the option to wear sweatpants at times when no one can see you. But if you’re using Zoom, you can still be seen from the waist up! So here’s how to dress for success from the home office.
Why dress up?
“Dress for success.” “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” … Yes, all of this still applies even if you’re working from home.
Plus, some say dressing well for work can help motivate you to do your best work and put you in the zone. Now, that doesn’t have to mean getting glammed out in high heels and a blazer to sit in your home office, but it can mean putting on a nicer blouse than you would be wearing if you were home alone.

How does it look on camera?
Think about what you’re wearing and how it will look on camera. One sweater may fall flat while another stands out, depending on the color or pattern. The next two items come into play here too: accessories and backgrounds.
Adding accessories
I’ve added earrings at times to later realize no one can see them. So think about what you choose to put on and if it’s visible. You may want to try something new you would’ve otherwise wear because it plays better on camera, like a larger necklace or a bright blue turtleneck.

Think of your background
If you’re showing your actual background, then try to make sure it’s tidy. If you’re choosing a virtual background, make sure it won’t clash with whatever you’re wearing.
Hopefully these tips help, and have some fun with it!
