You have no budget and no gadgets? No problem! As long as you have a computer and a functional camera, you can set up a video chat.
CAMERA PLACEMENT
Where do you place your camera for a video call? First, identify where the camera is located on your computer or laptop. You want the camera to be placed at, or above, eye level. If you are using a laptop, you can use some books to elevate the computer to the right level. If you need to conduct presentations using your laptop’s keyboard, it may be worth investing in an external keyboard and mouse. But if you need your computer, you can also try to make the video call from your phone – just note you won’t be able to see others as well due to your smaller screen.

LIGHTING
The best way to look good on a video call is to have good lighting. Do that by placing yourself directly in front of the brightest window in your home. So you are facing toward the window. The natural light will help take away shadows (it’s what those fancy Hollywood lights recreate). Try to face the window as squarely/directly as possible – even if just for the video call. Otherwise, try to get as much front-facing light onto your face as possible using house lights. Anything that will fight your overheard lighting will help you look good – you can get creative!

BACKGROUND
Before you video chat, check your background. Make sure to move clutter or personal items out of the way or move your camera.
These three tips should improve the look of your video calls as we all #stayindoors to #staysafe during these crazy times.
