So, you may have never heard of it (I didn’t until mid-2020!) – but the Triller app is a social video platform that started in 2015. It’s a lot like TikTok, and upon opening the app a user will recognize this right away.
The platform was acquired by media investment firm Proxima Media in 2019, according to its LinkedIn page.
You can find Triller in the app store on an iOS or Android device. When you open it up you’ll notice you can vertically scroll on a main feed to find videos (just like TikTok).
Sound is a big part of the platform too. At a glance, you can see people dancing, singing and moving to songs on Triller.
Here’s how to use Triller:
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the screen to create content. It will prompt you to select “Music Video” or “Social Video.”

If you select a music video, you will get options of songs to choose from or you can import music from your library. If you choose a social video, the app skips the music option and takes you straight to video.
For both options you can either shoot a video using the app or you can import a video from your device. Or you can do both.

A user can edit speed and change filters to the video before uploading and/or recording.
At the end, Triller edits all your takes together for one final video. Unlike TikTok, however, the app appears to be able to take video longer than a minute.
