Our first married year together really flew by! I loved being a newlywed, but I’m also pleased to be settling into married life. Of course, we wanted to celebrate our first wedding anniversary but it was a little complicated with the pandemic.
However, my husband put together the most wonderful surprise for me. It’s also an inexpensive and fun way to celebrate a special event if you want to replicate it at home. P.S. This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure for more information.

The day of our anniversary my husband made me promise to stay out of the backyard.

That evening, he called me down to the best surprise – an outdoor movie theater!
It was beautifully decorated with candles floating in the pool. We got in the jacuzzi, popped the champagne and watched Harry Potter (since we were both re-reading the books at the time).
Don’t worry, if you want to recreate this but don’t know how to use a projector check out this post. Aside from a projector, you will also need a large sheet you can hang up in order to play the film.

We really indulged with homemade pizzas and even s’mores! He found a little kit that lets you make them on the go.
Then I surprised him with a murder mystery game! Yes, not as romantic but great entertainment for people who like solving puzzles and playing games.

It wasn’t the same as our honeymoon in Hawaii, but it was very thoughtful and now I will always remember our first wedding anniversary!
