Instagram Reels were introduced to the IG world in August 2020. The feature allows a user to record, create and edit up to 60-second multi-clip videos. A user can add audio, effects, text and more to their Reels. So, how do you use Instagram Reels?

You can share IG Reels with your followers on your feed, but if you have a public account you can also post them to a wider audience through a new space in Explore, according to Instagram.

So, here’s how to use reels:
First, find the feature in your IG camera.

Then you can either record clips or upload clips. You can even do both – upload a video and record a video – and combine it into one post. However, the max limit is 60 seconds per video. It was 15 seconds when the app first launched.
Next, you can add audio. To do this, search in the Instagram library. If you upload your own video you can use that audio and Instagram will credit you for the sound. If you have a public account, others can create Reels by using your audio by choosing “Use Audio” from your reel.

You can add effects. There is an effect gallery you can use for your Reels.
There’s a timer and countdown. This gives you the option of recording your clips hands-free. You’ll see a countdown appear when using it.
Try out the align option. By using align you can line up objects for your next record. If you choose the feature, you’ll see a double-layer video appear over your recording. This will show you where your last clip ended so you can properly set up the next clip. The purpose is to help create better transitions. (UPDATE: This feature no longer appears available in 2021.)

There’s also a button for speed. Speed lets you speed up or slow down the video or audio selected.
After you finish choosing from those options, move on to add a filter or text to your reel before you post it.
