Want to use your phone as a remote control for your TV? AirPlay, which allows wireless streaming between Apple devices, lets you to do just that. Here’s how you can use AirPlay to mirror what you see on your phone to your Apple TV using “Screen Mirroring.”
I often use AirPlay when my Apple TV remote is acting up or if I’m using an old Apple TV that may not have the app I want to stream from, like Hulu or Amazon Prime.
Or it’s a great way to share something with a group of people that’s only on your phone, such as photos from a recent trip.
First, make sure your phone is on the same WiFi as your Apple TV (or another compatible smart TV, like Roku).
Then pull open your control center – depending on the phone model you have this is either a swipe up motion from your home screen or a swipe down motion from the top right corner of your home screen:

Tap “Screen Mirroring” and options to connect to an Apple TV or another AirPlay device should appear:

If you run into issues connecting then you can troubleshoot by checking your phone and Apple TV are on the same WiFi network, making sure the Apple TV is on, turning off and on Bluetooth on your phone, turning off and on WiFi on your phone.

And one other tip, you can also mirror your screen with an iPad too.
So there you go, that’s how you use AirPlay to mirror your phone or iPad to an Apple TV or another device!
