
When Instagram first launched Reels in August 2020, the new feature allowed a user to edit 15-second multi-clip videos. Now the videos can be up to 60 seconds.
You’ll see a red arrow pointing to the updated time allotment in the picture below.

To get started with IG Reels, go to your Instagram camera on the main page and select the REELS option at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see LIVE and STORY next to it. So you can toggle between those options.
In addition to the time allotment change, users can now extend the length of the timer up to 10 seconds and users can also trim and delete clips to make editing easier.

When using Reels you can record or upload clips, and add audio and effects to your videos.
When you’re done you can either post it to the Instagram Reels section on your account or you can post it to that section plus your main grid.
Instagram Reels are still relatively new, so keep an eye out. As the platform continues to compete with TikTok it is also likely to evolve.
