Our LivWell Spotlight series focuses on how health and technology overlap, covering ways to improve wellness with the right tools.
There are apps that can help you track beauty ingredients in products so you know what you’re using and if it’s healthy or not. Here we review four apps to give you some ideas on where to start.
Think Dirty
This app is a quick way to learn about potentially toxic ingredients in your cosmetics and products. Scan a product’s barcode using the app and it will give you info on the product, including “dirty ingredients.” You can also shop for cleaner options.

This app also lets a user scan a barcode to see the impact on health. A rating of information is provided to help understand the analysis of each product. The app also recommends healthier alternatives if a product has a negative health rating.
