Ah the art of the selfie! Taking the perfect picture isn’t easy. But there are a few things you can do to make sure you look like your best self (selfie or not). Follow these simple tips to look good in every picture.
Make sure you’re capturing the very best shots!
- Check the lighting – Lighting is huge! Shadows are not flattering. Not only will good lighting help you avoid shadows but it will also amplify your good features. So if you don’t have a light you can use (I like ring lights when available), position yourself toward natural light by facing a window whenever possible.

- Position the camera – Holding the camera slightly higher than yourself and angled down can be a more flattering angle. I also recommend tilting your chin down and tilting your head slightly to the side. Try it out next time and see for yourself. One thing you definitely don’t want to do is position a camera below your face, pointed up at your chin – that is not a flattering angle.

- Perfect your smile – I am big on smiles. 🙂 But I’ve seen people struggle with them. My advice is if you can keep your lips open and your teeth closed (as in bite down – pictured above) that is the best look. But, of course, go with what works for you and what you feel most comfortable doing! Confidence is key.

- Work your angles – If you like one side of your face more than the other then position that side toward the camera. If you don’t love your arms in the shirt you’re wearing either change the shirt or work with angles to enhance what you have. We’ve all seen the hands on hips, elbows out to the side pose. So try new poses, experiment with your setting and get creative.
While those are some tips for how to look good in every picture, I think you will look good no matter what! 😉
