
Making extra money is always nice. Especially if you can do it in a way you enjoy. I love making videos. I do it for work. But I never really thought about making money on YouTube, mainly because I work full-time and I’m pretty busy (aren’t we all!).

However, after my wedding one of my YouTube videos started to pick up steam (gaining 100k views in a week type of steam) and I started to wonder: Can I get paid for supplying this semi-viral content? Can I make money on YouTube?
That’s when I thought to look into when I’d see my first big paycheck… only to find out that despite having 790,858 minutes watched in a month, I would not be getting paid. Why? Well, at this point in time YouTube has certain ‘requirements’ for someone to earn money on the platform.

The first one I easily surpassed:
The channel needs at least 4,000 watch hours in the previous 12 months.
The second one was my issue:
1,000 subscribers

Alas, just a few more subscribers and I’d be raking in an estimated few hundred dollars a month on my videos already posted. Yeah, kind of annoying. But now you know the deal in order to get the big bucks. You can find out more directly from YouTube here.
