My mom turned 65 during the pandemic, but we still threw her an amazing party. These are the steps we took if you want to safely recreate something special for a loved one during social distancing. So listen up for how to plan a successful themed party! P.S. This post may contain affiliate links. Please see my disclosure for more information.

First, I picked a theme: Italy. I chose this theme because my mom is Italian. She’s already been (and so have I), but we have never been as a family. It’s a trip we kept meaning to take and kept putting off. So while we couldn’t go to Italy, we brought it to her!

I brainstormed decorations and researched online what to get. I found some amazing stuff, including a tablecloth, funny Italian signs, a photo prop of the Mona Lisa, flags and plates.

And I added to the atmosphere further with signs of actual locations and little chalkboard menus! My dad took her on a walk while my husband and I decorated. Then my brother and cousin arrived and we surprised her when she got back.

Next, I knew it’d be a small gathering with only the people I’ve been quarantining with to stay safe. But I found a socially distant band to come play!

Lastly, I made a video slideshow with photos from her life. I had the photos saved from an app I use called Photomyne. It’s a mobile photo scanner app that helps you save photos from physical albums in order to digitally record them. I had previously done that and stored the photos in a shared album on my phone that backs up to my iCloud (so I have more storage).

If you aren’t savvy enough with your editing skills, you can google around for different sites that help you create videos too!

Of course, we had some Italian food to go with the party and ta-da – best successful themed party ever!
