Blogging is a serious business! Well, not always. But if you want to make your blog a business it takes a lot of work. Here are four things to know before you start blogging.
1. SEO is such an important factor, it’s nuts!
I am so happy I looked into SEO, aka search engine optimization, before I started my blog. SEO is super important because it’s how your posts and pages show up on search engines like Google. Without using SEO your posts won’t get seen nearly as often as they could.
I downloaded a plugin called Yoast which helps me measure my SEO for every post and page on my site. So when I write a blog post (like this one) my plugin tells me what to do in order to get a good SEO score, in turn, making it more likely my post will appear further up on Google searches. 2. Choose a theme for your blog.
This will help you establish your brand. Having a focus is essential when building your audience because people go to blogs for advice. If you can hone in on a particular skill or topic you are an expert on then go with that. You can build your brand from there. Click here to get more tips on brand development.
3. Decide what platforms you want to use to promote your content.
I had a developed set of social platforms that helped me get started. But I do see the most traffic from search engines due to SEO. Other bloggers have a lot of success with Pinterest, which I also use. So start building your social platforms and use those outlets to help drive traffic back to your site!

4. Look into revenue streams.
Bloggers, influencers and online businesses make money in a few different ways. Some popular ones are affiliate marketing, ad revenue, and selling workshops or products. Figure out what fits your blog and brand and go from there.
